Public Works Department

Department Overview

The Public Works Department manages maintenance of the Village's infrastructure as well as the design and construction of infrastructure improvements.  Additionally, the Public Works Department oversees all aspects of building, zoning and engineering services, including plan review and permitting for all residential and commercial development.  

Daily operations of the Public Works Department include the operation and maintenance of the Village's sanitary and storm sewer systems, streets and sidewalks, street signs and traffic control signs, street lights, fleet and equipment, and building and grounds. The Public Works Department operates the Village's Water Treatment Plant and maintains the water distribution system, which together deliver high-quality drinking water to all residents and businesses. The Public Works Department oversees contractual residential garbage and recycling collection provided by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS).

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Administrative Division, Sewer Division, Forestry Division, Municipal Building Division, Streets and Sidewalks Division, Parking and Traffic Control Division, Community Development Division, Municipal Garage Division, Street Lighting Division and Water Division.

David Mau was appointed Public Works Director in 1996. He has been employed in the Public Works Department since 1990 following six years working as a construction engineer in the private sector. David has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University, and is a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois.
