Business Licenses

All businesses operating in commercially zoned spaces in the Village are required to obtain a business license. Business licenses are issued for a one-year period beginning January 1 each year and expire on December 31. The information obtained through business licensing assists the Village's efforts to promote Glencoe businesses and disseminate important information to the local business community. Please note that the information obtained from your application will only be used for Village business and will not be made available except as expressly required by law.

For a new business license to be issued, zoning inspection and approval is required to ensure the type of business is a permitted use, fire inspection and approval is required to address life safety issues and ensure the space is up to code and health inspection and approval is required for any business serving food or drink. The Business Services Team will work with all new business owners to serve as a point of contact and assist in coordinating these inspections and approvals.

Outdoor Seating Permits
The Village recognizes that outdoor seating during the warmer months contributes to the vitality of Glencoe’s business districts. There are several requirements for the addition of outdoor seating to ensure that the utilization of the public right-of-way does not obstruct pedestrian use. The requirements necessary to obtain a Village of Glencoe Outdoor Seating Permit are listed on the application - please read it carefully when applying. There is no permit fee, however, outdoor seating does require Village approval. Outdoor seating is permitted between April 1 and November 30 by the Village Code.
