Joint COVID-19 Message from Glencoe Government Agencies

Dear friends and neighbors,

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, the Village of Glencoe, Glencoe Park District, Glencoe Public Library and Glencoe District 35 have released critical public health information detailing simple, yet vital, steps that the entire Glencoe community can take to slow the spread of COVID-19. This public health guidance, rooted in scientific data released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), has reiterated the importance of wearing a face mask, washing our hands and keeping our distance from others.

The number of positive COVID-19 cases has significantly increased during the past month not only in Glencoe’s COVID-19 response region (Region 10/ Suburban Cook County) but across the entire State of Illinois as well. As of today, August 7, the IDPH reports that our Region 10 has sustained a seven-day increase in COVID-19 positivity rates based on a seven-day rolling average and a 5.7% COVID-19 positivity rate overall. As a comparison, just one month ago on July 7, Region 10 was 1.3% lower at a 4.0% positive testing rate. In addition, Region 10 has experienced 16 days of increased hospital admissions relating to COVID-19-like illnesses in the past 30 days. Cook County also reports that COVID-19 infection rates for individuals in their 20s are now 2.5 times higher than they were at the end of March, and this age group now has the highest rates of COVID-19. We think you’ll agree – these numbers are startling.

Together, all Glencoe governing bodies are calling upon the entire Glencoe community to take immediate action: we must wear a face mask to combat the resurgence of COVID-19. We believe this is a responsibility we each have to one another to not only keep our community safe but to also ensure that:

• Our children can safely return to school this fall – and stay there through the school year
• Our families can fully take part in the Glencoe Park District’s excellent programming and experience our parks and beach
• Our community can enjoy our exceptional library and its one-of-a-kind staff and services
• Our first responders can stay safe from COVID-19
• We can remain in Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan so Glencoe’s local economy can survive: our restaurants can stay open, our unique retailers can remain available and our cultural institutions can welcome guests again

Glencoe is a community of neighbors; as such, we must work together to support and protect one another during this global pandemic. We urge you to join us in our commitment to follow scientifically demonstrated guidance from our public health agencies to slow the spread of COVID-19 help those who have the virus and do not know it from transmitting the virus to others.
