Stormwater Management

The Village is passionate about mitigating stormwater flooding on public and private property.  In municipalities which were established before the 1900's, some of the storm sewer infrastructure is undersized to convey the large amounts of stormwater runoff associated with the high rate of development within the Village.

One way the Village approaches high flows during rain events is by attempting to restrict storm water flow from private residences into the Village storm sewers. This allows for the streets to drain first without overwhelming the storm sewers with stormwater runoff from private property.

Onsite detention is required by Village Code for any development which exceeds the allowable amount of impervious (hardscarpe) area on the parcel.  Calculations to determine if on-site detention is required must be submitted for review to the Village Engineer.
