2020 Village Facility Security Upgrades

2020 Village Facility Security Upgrades

In 2016, Village staff conducted and evaluated a security/vulnerability assessment for Village-owned properties and public spaces in our central business district in order to enhance the overall safety of the community. The assessment indicated that the Village Hall and other Village owned facilities required upgrades to enhance security while balancing public access and reducing exposure to external threats.  For public spaces, the assessment indicated that security cameras would provide an enhanced level of safety and security for the general public. In light of this, the Village Board approved a comprehensive, two-phased approach to install these necessary upgrades.

The Phase One project was completed in July 2019 and included key card access and security cameras at Village owned buildings and facilities including Village Hall, Public Works Garage and the Water Plant. Phase Two includes the installation of security cameras in the central business district, public parking areas and at the Glencoe Metra station. Phase Two is currently underway and should be complete by early summer 2020.

These security improvements are meant to enhance the safety of our community and to supplement our Public Safety Department’s already visible presence. Glencoe Public Safety remains committed to ensuring that our business district and public areas that surround it remain safe, accessible places for our residents and visitors to enjoy.
