2020 Outdoor Dining Program
(Updated June 19, 2020)
Following extensive conversation at their May 21 Committee of the Whole and June 1 Village Board meetings, the Village of Glencoe Board of Trustees adopted a resolution authorizing an auxiliary outdoor seating area program for Glencoe restaurants in compliance with Governor J.B. Pritzker’s Restore Illinois Plan Phase 3 requirements, which permit restaurants and bars to operate with outdoor dining and carry-out/delivery. Portions of the downtown Village Court parking lot are now closed, creating an auxiliary outdoor seating area that can be used by any downtown restaurant by permit. Valor Restaurant has been approved by the Village to utilize the southwest portion of the parking lot.
Strongly supported by members of the restaurant community, the new outdoor dining space provides seating for dine-in or carry-out customers and the option for restaurants to use overhead tents in the outdoor dining area. The new area strives to balance the needs of the downtown business community as a whole by utilizing as few as 20 or as many as 46 off-street parking spaces in the western and central portions of the Village Court lot and maintaining all on-street parking in front of downtown businesses for customers patronizing retailers, service businesses or picking up carry-out food and beverage purchases. The Village Court lot will continue to provide some off-street parking for downtown business customers and access to private parking areas that are connected to the north and south ends of the Village Court lot.
The Village will remain in close contact with the restaurants, retailers and services businesses in the downtown to evaluate the program and any opportunities for improvement. The downtown Glencoe business community is a strong partner in this effort, and their continued input and support is vital to the success of the program.

Downtown restaurants are not limited to the new centralized outdoor dining area. In conjunction with the start of Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois Plan, the Village released applications for its annual outdoor seating permit process, which allows businesses to place outdoor seating on Village sidewalks. Both sidewalk seating and the new outdoor dining area will be permitted in line with State regulations, including six feet of separation between tables and parties limited to six individuals.
