Development of a Recognition ProgramNumerous Glencoe businesses contributed to a 2016 business survey conducted by the Glencoe Sustainability Task Force. Survey results demonstrated that many Village businesses are already engaged in very positive practices and have been for a long time. Activities include installing energy-efficient light bulbs, recycling, re-using and re-purposing resources, employing biodegradable products and obtaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
With our already good habits in mind, we can all still benefit from learning what each other is doing to be more sustainable. The Task Force aims to inform Glencoe businesses what their peers in the community are doing, to help businesses learn what resources are available to be sustainable and to promote our business community's sustainable actions to Glencoe residents and the Chicago-land region.
To this end, the Task Force has partnered with the Village’s Business Liaison Team to do the following, among other activities:
- Providing informational resources and encouraging businesses to be sustainable.
- Recognizing businesses that are participating in sustainable practices by giving them a recognition sticker to display in their store window.
- Promote noteworthy actions taken by businesses.
- Publicizing sustainable accomplishments of local businesses.
The program is easy to join—just complete the brief questionnaire indicating what steps you’ve already taken and return it to Village Hall or upload it here on this webpage or e-mail it to Megan Meyer at firstname.lastname@example.org. After review, the Task Force will provide you a participation sticker to adhere to your business window or door. Businesses that are taking extraordinary steps may be contacted by the Task Force to learn more about how you implemented those practices in your business.

Also, we welcome any ideas businesses have that could help others be more sustainable. Just write them on the attached application, or contact the Task Force liaison Megan Meyer at email@example.com.
