Share Your Ideas for Walking and Biking in Glencoe

Do you know of a school crossing that could be improved to help students get to or from school more safely? Have you ever cycled through Glencoe and wished that you felt safer as you pedaled around town? Are there places you’ve visited in town that could use a bike rack? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions (or a multitude of others about walking and biking in Glencoe, really), then we want your feedback!
Earlier this past fall, I posted a blog announcing the kick-off of the development of Glencoe’s first-ever Active Transportation Plan. As you may remember, the Sustainability Task Force and the Village have partnered with the Glencoe Park District and District 35 to develop an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) with the help of the Active Transportation Alliance, a non-profit advocacy organization. The ATP will identify initiatives, policies and infrastructure improvements that will increase the safety and accessibility of walking and biking to our schools, parks, the Green Bay Trail, downtown Glencoe and other local destinations.
A steering committee, made up of representatives from community organization leaders and residents, have already begun the process, and conversations have been very fruitful. However, the committee needs your feedback as well. Now through March, the steering committee is soliciting ideas from the community to help inform plan recommendations and priorities. There are several ways to participate:
- Online Survey: Fill out the survey to tell us why you walk and/or bike in Glencoe, how you would like us to prioritize improvements and what your vision is for the future of our transportation network. The survey will take about 20 minutes to complete and is available through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GlencoeATP
- Online Interactive Map: Use our online map to mark places you would like to see more bike racks, walking and biking routes you think are great and streets you would like to see improved. You can leave comments on the map and interact with other users. Follow this link to access the map: http://wikimapping.com/wikimap/Glencoe-Active-Transportation-Plan.html
- Community Workshop: We’re planning an interactive workshop in early 2018. Look for an announcement on the Village website.
