Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe: Spring Recycling and Collection Events

By Village Manager Phil Kiraly

The spring-cleaning season has begun! Mark your calendars to take advantage of upcoming collection and sustainability events in Glencoe. Remember, items set out on the curb on the Village-wide Clean-Up Day will go to a landfill. Please consider donating items that can be reasonably reused or recycling items whenever possible. Don’t forget that the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) has a great resource for specialty recycling and donations. #SustainabilityStar

    9 a.m.-11 am., Veteran’s Memorial Park
The Glencoe Park District, in partnership with the Glencoe Sustainability Task Force, is planning a community clean-up to mark Earth Day. Participants will be assigned areas to clean upon arrival at the event. Please bring reusable bags and gloves, as these will not be provided. The Glencoe Sustainability Task Force will be hosting its third annual Donate and Recycle Drop-Off Event. This drop-off event is for Glencoe residents only and is occurring a week before the Village Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 22 in an effort to divert reusable and recyclable items from going to landfills. • Saturday, May 22: Clean-Up Day

However, hazardous waste (paint, gas, chemicals, etc.), electronics (computers, stereos, etc.), building materials (wood, lumber, drywall, etc.), tires, appliances and landscape waste (trees, branches, logs, leaves, etc.) are not included in this program.

8 a.m.-3 p.m., Glencoe Metra Southeast Commuter Parking Lot (290 Park Avenue)
The Village of Glencoe and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency will be sponsoring a residential household hazardous waste collection event. This event is open to all Illinois residents by appointment. Find the list of acceptable and unacceptable materials at villageofglencoe.org/hhw.
