Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe: September 2017

It feels like just yesterday that we started this Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe blog series help share details of summer events in our community. Already days are growing shorter, and that signature morning chill is starting to set in, which can only mean one thing: fall in Glencoe is just around the corner. Check out these special events around the community to make the most out of the end of summer and early fall: 

  • Saturday, September 9-Sunday, September 10: Dahlia Show
    Noon-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, Chicago Botanic Garden
    Hosted by the American Dahlia Society & Midwest Dahlia Conference

    Enjoy hundreds of dahlia blooms, ranging in size from a silver dollar to a dinner plate, in addition to floral designs and photography.

  • Monday, September 11: 9/11 Remembrance  
    7:45 a.m., Am Shalom
    Join Am Shalom for a special remembrance of September 11, 2001 in conjunction with the Glencoe Public Safety Department. Meet outside at the flagpole on Lincoln Avenue.

  • Friday, September 15-Sunday, September 17: American Craft Exposition
    10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, Chicago Botanic Garden
    If you’re passionate about the arts, this one is for you! This highly competitive juried show and sale of fine craft features one-of-a-kind handcrafted artwork and luxury collections from the country's leading craftspeople. Tickets required – get started using the link above.

  • Saturday, September 16: Coffee with the Board
    9-11 a.m., Glencoe French Market
    The Village Board wants to hear about what local issues are most important to you. Enjoy a cup of coffee and meet with members of the Board to learn about current Village initiatives, such as the new garbage collection program with Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) which starts November 1. No RSVP necessary – stop by anytime that you can!

  • Saturday, September 16: The Great Mud Run
    First race starts at 9 a.m., Watts Park
    Inspired by the Tough Mudder, American Ninja Warrior and the Warrior Dash, the Glencoe Park District is proud to bring an obstacle race (for those 7-14 year olds in the community) to Watts Park. Registration required – get started using the above link.

  • Sunday, September 17 and Saturday, September 23: Doggie Dips at Glencoe Beach
    2-3 p.m., Glencoe Beach
    Bring your dog to the Glencoe Beach for a whole lotta doggone fun! Owners can watch their dogs swim in Lake Michigan while enjoying the company of other dogs in this fun-filled free event! Dogs must be at least 4 months of age and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pet. Learn more about other rules from the link above.  

  • Tuesday, September 19: Overview of the Chicago Lyric Opera’s 2017/2018 Season
    7 p.m., Glencoe Union Church (263 Park Avenue)
    The Lyric Opera of Chicago Chapters Evanston, Glencoe, Northfield, Wilmette, and Winnetka invite you to an informative Overview of Lyric’s 2017/18 Season with Roger Pines, Lyric’s dramaturg and commentator for Lyric’s Broadcasts on WFMT. Admission is $20 for members and $25 for guests.

  • Wednesday, September 27: Quixote – On the Conquest of Self
    7:30 p.m., Writers Theatre (Shows continue through December 17)
    Get your tickets now for the premier of Writers Theatre’s Quixote. This creative interpretation of the classic novel by Miguel de Cervantes transports audiences between time periods: from the fascinating universes created by Cervantes to the parallel realities of our current world.
