Tuesday, October 2: Composting Basics
7:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Avenue
Learn how to get starting composting with the Glencoe Community Garden and the Sustainability Task Force. New and experienced composters alike are welcome to join this informational program.

Friday, October 5: Tee Up For FSG
11 a.m., Glencoe Golf Club, 621 Westley Road
Family Service of Glencoe invites you to gather friends, show off your golf swing and raise awareness for mental health needs in our community at its inaugural golf outing. Purchase tickets online at the FSG website.

Saturday, October 6: Coffee with the Boards
10 a.m.-Noon, Glencoe French Market, 675 Village Court
Meet with your local elected officials from the Village of Glencoe, Glencoe Park District, District 35 and the Glencoe Public Library over a cup of coffee and discuss community topics most important to you.

Saturday, October 6: Semi-Annual Clean-Up Day
Throughout Glencoe
Dispose of “bulk items” that are not generally included in your regular garbage collection in this community-wide special collection, such as furniture, appliances, boxes and tires. Hazardous waste, electronics, and building and landscaping materials will not be accepted. View a list of acceptable items via the link above.

Saturday, October 6: Harvest Fest
10 a.m.-1 p.m., Kalk Park, 298 Park Avenue
Celebrate fall at one of the best free community spirit events of the year! Spend the morning enjoying family-friendly games, attractions and entertainment. Halloween pumpkins will be available for purchase.

Saturday, October 6: Tails and Ales
2-6 p.m., Glencoe Beach
Enjoy a family-friendly happy hour with your dog at Glencoe Beach! Admission includes a souvenir cup, two drink tickets (beer, wine or cider) and playtime with your pup. Event proceeds benefit the Glencoe Rotary Club. Advanced registration is encouraged – get started via the link above.

Thursday, October 11: Autumn Brews – Seasonal Beer Tasting in the Garden
6-8 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, ticket price varies
Welcome the fall weather and celebrate Oktoberfest locally! Receive a wristband, tasting glass and tasting sheet to try seasonally selected beers from local breweries. Guests must be 21 years of age or older, and advanced ticket purchase is recommended. For more information, please call (847) 835-5440. 

Thursday, October 11: Parenting in the Digital Age
6:30 p.m., Central School, 620 Greenwood Avenue
Join Family Service of Glencoe for an interactive discussion on parenting in a technological world and learn tips to try at home.

Saturday, October 13 – Monday, October 15: Friends’ Book Sale
Various Times, Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Avenue
Peruse thousands of used books, DVDs and CDs for all ages at the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library book sale! All proceeds benefit the Library.

Monday, October 15 – Friday, October 19: Urban Suburban Clothing Drive
Central School, 620 Greenwood Avenue
As the days start to get cooler and summer clothes are being packed away, share your clothes and shoes for this fall clothing drive. Drop off items in good, clean condition at the container in front of the school. All clothing will be donated to families in need at CICS Prairie School in Chicago.

Wednesday, October 17: 8th Annual Buckthorn BBQ
6-9 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road
Join the Friends of the Green Bay Trail for a celebration of the trail, featuring Bill Kurtis, TV journalist and environmentalist. Purchase your tickets in advance before they’re sold out!

Thursday, October 18: Vibrant Senior Living
1-2:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Avenue
Glencoe seniors are invited to take part in a conversation and study on relevant topics in this important season of life. Discussion will be facilitated by Family Service of Glencoe staff counselor Joan Merlo, LCSW.

Saturday, October 20: Farm Fit - Good For You and the Garden, Too!
10 a.m. - Noon, Glencoe Community Garden, 380 Old Green Bay Road
Work up a healthy sweat at the Glencoe Community Garden during this unique circuit event! All ages are welcome to help prepare the Garden for upcoming winter months and cold weather. Event will be held rain or shine, so dress for a mess!

Wednesday, October 24: Visiting Professor – The Midterm Elections
7:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Avenue
Enjoy an academic’s perspective on the November 6 midterm elections with James Marquardt, associate professor of politics at Lake Forest College. Marquardt will discuss the effects of the likely return to divided government on the domestic and foreign fronts and provide a historical view of consequential midterm elections. Event sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library.

Wednesday, October 24 – Sunday, October 28: Night of 1,000 Jack-o-Lanterns
6:30-10:30 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road, Ticket price varies
Check out more than 1,000 hand-carved pumpkins as they light up the night sky! Replacing “HallowFest,” see LED-lit jack-o'-lanterns as huge as 150 pounds staged along a festive, paved pathway. Along the way, encounter entertaining characters, view the ghostly trains in the Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America, and feast on seasonal light food and drinks for sale. Thursday, October 25: Boo Bash
5:30-7 p.m., Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road
Calling all ghosts and goblins! Enjoy a boo-tiful evening filled with crafts, carnival games, candy and treats, entertainment and a pizza dinner. Please wear a costume and bring a trick-or-treat bag. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult, and advanced registration is encouraged.

Saturday, October 27: Super Stolie Halloween Daydream
10 a.m., Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Avenue
Get into the Halloween spirit with this fun, spooky concert! Performing on acoustic guitar and with her magical looping pedal, Super Stolie serves a dynamic batch of songs, nursery rhymes and popular cover tunes.

Wednesday, October 31: Halloween Hello
10 a.m.-4 p.m., Downtown Glencoe
Trick-or-treat throughout town by stopping into participating Village merchants during this spook-tastic event sponsored by the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce.

Calling all superheroes, ghosts and ghouls! Trick-or-treat around our community on Halloween. To make sure that everyone has a Franken-tastic time, take a look at the safety tips linked above.
