Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe: March 2019

Celebrate the official start of spring month by checking out this month’s local events and activities. Make sure to mark your calendars for two special March Sesquicentennial events:
I Love This Town: A Musical Salute to Glencoe on March 18 and the Village's Birthday Party on March 29! Visit the Sesquicentennial website at www.glencoe150.org for a full calendar of 2019 events and other celebration details. 

  • Sunday, March 10: Family Fun Fest
    2-4 p.m., Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road)
    Come see the wide variety games, crafts and activities your family can enjoy together, compliments of Family Service of Glencoe and the Glencoe Park District. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • Sunday, March 10: Genealogy Workshop – A Crash Course
    2-4:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
    This workshop is a fun orientation to learning about your family history. Genealogy beginners and experts alike are invited to learn accredited research precepts to revitalize your efforts. Registration is encouraged.  
  • Tuesday, March 12: Starting Your Garden Inside
    7-8:30 p.m., Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road)
    Learn how you can easily and successfully start your own garden indoors at this free event! Learn from Glencoe Community Garden volunteers how to pick appropriate plants, containers and lighting options to help your garden thrive.  
  • Tuesday, March 12: Amazing Avian Intelligence
    7-8:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
    Emma England will discuss new studies illustrating the incredible mental capabilities of birds. Using photos and film, she will discuss how different bird species use tools and creativity to solve challenges. The event is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Green Bay Trail.  
  • Wednesday, March 13: Writers Open Mic Night
    7-8:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
    Writers of all ages working in all forms and genres are welcome to share their works at this community library evening. If you’re interested in reading your work, please contact the Library in advance via e-mail. Everyone is welcome to participate by reading or simply by being an appreciative audience member.  
  • Friday, March 15: Youth Art Show
    6-8 p.m., Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road)
    Join the Glencoe Park District for its exciting Youth Art Show! Check out paintings, drawings and ceramics pieces created by local young talent. Light refreshments will be served.  
  • Sunday, March 17: Leprechaun Hunt
    2-3:15 p.m., Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road)
    Children ages two-through-six are invited to take part in a magical search for elusive leprechauns and their hidden treasures. Advanced registration required. All children must be accompanied by an adult.  
  • Monday, March 18: I Love this Town: A Musical Salute to Glencoe
    Two performances, 7:30 and 9 p.m., Writers Theatre (325 Tudor Court)
    Join the Sesquicentennial Planning Committee and Writers Theatre for two exclusive performances of this lively, entertaining musical cabaret honoring Glencoe’s unique history. Glenconians will laugh the night away celebrating our community through popular songs, creatively transformed to tell the story of our Village. Buy your tickets before they’re sold out!  
  • Wednesday, March 20: Opening Night of A Number
    7:30 p.m., Writers Theatre (325 Tudor Court) | Performances through June 9
    Set in a strikingly family future, “A Number” is an ingenious and illuminating twist of a family drama examines the idea of individuality and the very nature of identity. 
  • Until Sunday, March 24: “In the Tropics” Orchid Show
    Various times, Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Road)
    This year’s Orchid Show captures the spirit of islands, beaches and rainforests in places like the South Pacific and the Amazon. Enjoy more than 10,000 orchids in bloom and even bring some home with you!  
  • Monday, March 25: Young Adult Movie and Pizza Party: Ant-Man and the Wasp
    5-7 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
    Are your teens looking for something to do during spring break? Join the Library for a screening of Marvel’s hit film Ant-Man and the Wasp while enjoying pizza and movie treats. All attendees will be eligible for a random drawing to win a movie gift card! Movie is rated PG-13.  
  • Friday, March 29: Village Birthday Party
    All day, Village Hall (675 Village Court)
    Celebrate the Village’s 150th anniversary of incorporation at this fun birthday event! More information coming soon.
