With the final day of school and the official start of summer just around the corner, there’s plenty to do in and around town to fill your days! Here’s your June run-down of ways to Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe:
- Saturday, June 2: Glencoe Grand Prix
All Day, Downtown Glencoe
The Village is excited to welcome the riders and spectators of the 12th Annual Glencoe Grand Prix to downtown Glencoe this weekend. Whether you’re racing, cheering on the sidelines or coming downtown for the block party – we hope you have a great day in Glencoe! To accommodate bike races and other Grand Prix events, various downtown adjacent streets will be closed or cut down to one lane throughout the day on Saturday. - Tuesday, June 5: Community Blood Drive
7 a.m. - 1 p.m., Village Hall (675 Village Court)
Did you know that every two seconds, someone needs blood? Give the gift of life by participating in the Village's annual Community Blood Drive. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome too. Register via the link above.
- Wednesday, June 6: Journey to the Moon with Author Robert Kurson
7:30 - 8:30 p.m., Glencoe Library (320 Park Avenue)
Do you ever wonder how the NASA sent astronauts to the moon? Author Robert Kurson will discuss the exciting story of Apollo 8 and the international race to outer space.
- Friday, June 8: Movies on the Green: Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Dusk, Wyman Green (675 Village Court)
Bring lawn chairs, blankets and grab your favorite movie snacks from Glencoe Youth Services. In case of inclement weather, movies will be screened in Council Chambers on the second floor of Village Hall starting at 8 p.m. Click the link above for the full lineup of free blockbusters!
- Saturday, June 9: Glencoe French Market Opening Day
8 a.m.-1 p.m., Wyman Green (675 Village Court)
The Glencoe French Market returns to Wyman Green this summer starting June 9! Be sure to make the Glencoe French Market your every-Saturday-stop for fresh farm produce and fruit, locally grown flowers, baked goods and artisanal items.
- Saturday, June 9: Coffee with the Boards
10 a.m.-Noon, Wyman Green (675 Village Court)
While making your rounds at the Glencoe French Market, stop by the second Coffee with the Boards event. Meet local leaders from the Village, School District 35, Glencoe Park District and Glencoe Library Board of Trustees and discuss the community topics most important to you—all while enjoying free coffee and donuts! No RSVPs necessary.
- Saturday, June 9-Monday, June 11: Friends of the Glencoe Library Used Book Sale
Various times, Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
For great deals on books, DVDs, and CDs, check out the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library summer sale. All proceeds benefit the Library. Click the link above for times and special deals.
- Thursday, June 14: Camp in a Day | Play-in-a-Day
10 a.m.-3 p.m., Writers Theatre (325 Tudor Court) – Ages 8-12
Have you ever wanted to create a play from start to finish? This class at Writers Theatre explores how an ensemble can create a play from scratch from idea through to performance! Students learn games that spark thinking on their feet and end with creating a script for a final presentation. All of this accomplished at the end of ONE day! Register via the link above.
- Thursday, June 21: Family Service of Glencoe: Vibrant Living Senior Discussion Group
1-2:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
Glencoe senior residents are invited to join the Family Service of Glencoe for a lively conversation and study on relevant topics for this important season of life. Discussions are facilitated by staff counselor Joan Merlo, LCSW. New attendees are welcome to learn and connect.
- Thursday, June 21: Friends of the Green Bay Trail Solstice Celebration
7-8 p.m., Shelton Park (251 Harbor Street)
Celebrate the longest day of the year with outdoor activities and sun-related crafts. Enjoy the midpoint of the long summer nights outside in the lingering daylight. Co-sponsored with the Glencoe Park District.
- Friday, June 22: Tots-n-Tunes: Kevin and the Infinite Possibilities
10-10:45 a.m., Wyman Green (675 Village Court)
Playful pop-rocker Kevin stretches children’s imaginations with his storytelling while getting them up and moving to the beat. In case of inclement weather, Tots-n-Tunes will take place in the Library’s Johnson Room. Sponsored by the Friends of the Glencoe Library. For all ages with adult.
- Saturday, June 23: St. Paul A.M.E. Church Yard Sale
8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., St. Paul A.M.E. Church (336 Washington Street)
Shop through gently used clothes, purses, shoes, small appliances, books, CDs, furniture and more! Event held rain or shine.
- Sunday, June 24: Antarctic Dinosaurs
2 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
The Field Museum is opening a new traveling exhibition with never-before-seen Antarctic dinosaur fossils and new insights. Tom Skwerski, exhibitions operations director for The Field, will provide an insider’s perspective on its preparation.
- Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30: Glencoe Ballroom Dance Club Open House
10 a.m.-5 p.m., Glencoe Ballroom Dance Club, 660 Vernon Avenue
Check out one of the newest additions to downtown Glencoe! The North Shore Ballroom Dance Society invites you to an Open House for the newly opened Glencoe Ballroom Dance Club. Enjoy complimentary group classes, professional performances and more. View the event flyer here.
- Saturday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30: Glencoe Sidewalk Sale
10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Downtown Glencoe
Glencoe shops are joined by local vendors on the sidewalks of Park and Vernon Avenues. Take a stroll through the sale to find special deals. Event sponsored by the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce.
- Friday, June 29-Sunday, July 1: Chicago Botanic Garden Art Festival
10 a.m.-5 p.m., The Esplanade at the Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Road)
Stop by the Chicago Botanic Garden Art Festival to see the work of 95 unique artists in a beautiful setting. All of the artwork embodies a botanic theme, use or material. And don’t forget to Save the Date for Glencoe’s own Festival of Art on Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29.
