Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe: July 2017
Summer has no shortage of special events and programs in Glencoe, and July is no exception. In July, our community not only enjoys a healthy round-up of outdoor movies, days soaking up the sun at Glencoe Beach and excursions to the Chicago Botanic Garden – we also get to start the month off right with the most iconic day of the year in Glencoe – the 4th of July! We hope you have enjoy celebrating Independence Day with friends, family and neighbors! Here’s your July run-down of events:
· Tuesday, July 4: Independence Day Celebrations
All day, Throughout Glencoe
Independence Day is the most celebrated day in the Village! This year's schedule, coordinated by the Glencoe Park District, can be found by clicking the link above. Don’t forget that anyone and everyone is invited to walk in the parade each year! Simply line up in front of Central School on Greenwood Avenue around 1:30 p.m. to join in the fun. The route then winds throughout downtown Glencoe. Don't forget that events like these are funded through the Patriotic Days Fund - make your contribution online here.
· Thursday, July 6: Hot Summer Nights at the Chicago Botanic Garden
6-8 p.m., Thursdays through August 31Much like the Music on the Esplanade series on Tuesdays, the Hot Summer Nights series brings an upbeat, high pace line up of artists and bands to the Garden. Stop by Thursday, July 6 to enjoy the Shamrock Ragsters.
· Sunday, July 9: Parade at Writers Theatre
2 p.m., Writers Theatre
Don’t miss out on the last showing of Tony- Award winning musical Parade at Writers Theatre which was extended through July 9 due to popular demand!
· Tuesday, July 11: Coffee with the Board
7-9 a.m., Train Station (724 Green Bay Road)
The Village Board of Trustees and Village President Larry Levin want to hear about what local issues are most important to you. Enjoy a cup of coffee and meet with members of the Board to learn about current Village initiatives and to discuss ways the Village can better serve our community. No RSVP necessary – stop by anytime that you can!
· Tuesday, July 11: Behind the Scenes of Gaugin: Artist and Alchemist with the Glencoe Public Library
7:30-8:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library Hammond Room
The Art Institute of Chicago is mounting a major new exhibition on Paul Gauguin now through September 10. Join in as Glencoe resident Allison Perelman, a research associate at the Art Institute of Chicago who has worked on the exhibition since its inception five years ago, discusses the important themes and artworks of the show and how they were brought to life in the galleries.
· Friday, July 14: Movies on the Green – Sing
Movies begin at Dusk, Wyman Green, Free
Grab your blankets and lawn chairs for the second Movies on the Green of the summer – Sing (PG). Don’t forget that you can pick up some snacks from Glencoe Youth Services at the event! Rain location is Council Chamber in Village Hall.
· Saturday, July 15: All Aboard! Takiff Express Train Day with the Glencoe Park District
10 a.m.-2 p.m., Takiff Center ($8 for residents)
Bring the kids to the Takiff Center for a fun-filled Saturday complete with the express trackless train, a caboose bounce house and model trains to play with!
· Saturday, July 22: Meet the Machines
9-11:30 a.m., Throughout Downtown Glencoe
See, touch and explore a variety of trucks and vehicles operated by the Glencoe Park District and the Village of Glencoe's Public Works and Public Safety Departments. Get up close to a firetruck, tractor, police car, ambulance and dump truck. Vehicles are subject to availability. Event will be held rain or shine.
· Sunday, July 23: North Shore Chamber Arts Ensemble Donor’s Reception
2:30-4:30 p.m., Guildhall (Donation required for entry)
Help support the North Shore Chamber Art Ensemble with wine, food, music and a silent auction.
· Friday, July 28-Saturday, July 29: Beach Camp Out with the Glencoe Park District
6 p.m.-9 a.m., Glencoe Beach (Price varies by family size)
Spend an evening camping out with your family at Glencoe Beach! The evening starts with an evening cookout, followed by an outdoor movie and marshmallow roasting. All children must be accompanied by a parent. Children under the age of two are free. Participants must register by July 24 with the Glencoe Park District.
· Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30: Glencoe Festival of Art
10 a.m.-5 p.m., Downtown Glencoe
This outdoor festival in downtown Glencoe offers artwork from more than 130 artists from around the world. Artists feature ceramics, glass, jewelry, metal, painting, photography and wood. The Glencoe Festival of Art is free and open to the public. Live music, food and activities for kids make the festival a perfect family experience.
· Saturdays: Glencoe French Market
8 a.m.-1 p.m., Wyman Green
Last but not least, don’t forget that the Glencoe French Market is open every Saturday through early fall. Stop by for your weekly filling of fresh, in-season fruits, veggies, produce and artisan goods.
