Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe: January 2020

This month brings not only a new year but a new decade as well! To help you celebrate all that 2020 has to offer, make sure to take a look at this month’s exciting community events. May your new year be filled with happiness, joy and fun!  

  • Tuesday, January 1: Village Hall Closed
    As a reminder, Village Hall closes at Noon on Tuesday, December 31 and is closed all day on Wednesday, January 1. Garbage and recycling collection will not be impacted by the holiday. 

    Don't forget that starting on Wednesday, January 8, Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) will pick-up holiday trees at no cost every Wednesday during January. Remove all lights, ornaments and garland before placing your tree at the parkway behind the curb. 
  • Wednesday, January 8: Super Bowls, Greens and Good Times!
    7-8:30 p.m., Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road) 
    Learn how to create a delicious and nutritionally-balanced food bowl from certified health coach Evey Schweig and assemble your own mini-bowl to sample! Please RSVP by January 6. 
  • Friday, January 10: Frozen Family Fun Night
    6-8 p.m., Watts Ice Center (305 Randolph Street) 
    Bring the whole family out for a night of fun with the Glencoe Park District. Enjoy a night under the stars at Watts Ice Center, skate with Anna and Elsa and enjoy other Frozen-themed activities together. 
  • Wednesday, January 15: Family Service of Glencoe Open House
    6:30-8 p.m., Hometown Coffee & Juice (700 Vernon Avenue) 
    In celebration of Family Service of Glencoe’s (FSG) 105th year of service to the community, you are invited to join FSG for a special evening. Learn about how FSG cares for the community through a tour of FSG’s clinical offices, a brief program and light refreshments.
  • Thursday, January 16: Vibrant Living Senior Discussion Group
    1-2:30 p.m., Village Hall (675 Village Court)
    Glencoe seniors are welcome join in a lively conversation and study on relevant topics in this important season of life. Facilitated by Family Service of Glencoe staff counselor Joan Merlo, LCSW. New attendees are welcome. 
  • Friday, January 17: Friday After Hours – Richard III
    7-8:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue) 
    Join the Glencoe Public Library for a theatrical reading of William Shakespeare’s Richard III by the Shakespeare Project of Chicago. Advanced registration for the event is encouraged. 
  • Saturday, January 18: Frozen, Jr.
    11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Winnetka Community House (620 Lincoln Avenue, Winnetka)
    See Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Sven from the movie Frozen come to life! Glencoe Park District and Sarah Hall Theatre Company’s Broadway Bound students invite you to join the adventure through two performances of Frozen, Jr. in Matz Hall of the Winnetka Community House. 
  • Monday, January 20: Watts Below Zero
    10 a.m.-Noon, Watts Ice Center (305 Randolph Street)
    Celebrate with the Glencoe Park District all that winter has to offer at this free event with arts, crafts, carnival games, ice sculpting and more! 
  • Saturday, January 25: Pinkalicious Jamboree
    10-10:45 a.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
    Guests of all ages are invited to celebrate all things pink! The Highland Park Players will present songs from their upcoming Pinkalicious musical, followed by crafts, activities and a snack. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
