Even though school resumes at the end of the month, there are still plenty of exciting community events taking place in August. Don’t forget to make time for these upcoming activities before summer ends!
- Saturday, August 3: Friends of the Green Bay Trail’s Trail Day
8 a.m. to Noon, Green Bay Trail between Scott Avenue and Shelton Park
Bring your family and friends for a fun-filled morning of outdoor activities! Enjoy free food, music and more with the Friends of the Green Bay Trail while taking in the Trail’s natural beauty.
- Saturday, August 3: Kidditch
2-4 p.m., Wyman Green (675 Village Court)
Young Harry Potter fans are invited to join the Loyola Lumos Quidditch team for an afternoon of “kidditch!” Loyola Quidditch team players will teach the game using drills and help facilitate matches. Please register your child in advance.

- Friday, August 9: Cardboard Regatta
12:30-2 p.m., Glencoe Beach
Turn cardboard into a seaworthy vessel and compete in a race against other boats at this special Glencoe Park District event. Please register by August 7 to participate.
- Friday, August 9: Movies on the Green – Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse
Dusk, Wyman Green (675 Village Court)
Don’t miss the last Movies on the Green of the 2019 season! Grab your lawn chairs and blankets for a free screening of Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. Event will be moved inside Village Hall in case of inclement weather.
- Saturday, August 10: Fun Three A’s in the Garden
9:30-10 a.m., Glencoe Community Garden (380 Old Green Bay Road)
Children of all ages are welcome to explore the Glencoe Community Garden with play educator Linda Semel! Make sure to bring an umbrella in case of rain.
- Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11: Kite Festival
10 a.m.-3 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Road)
Stop by the Chicago Botanic Garden to experience soaring stunt-kite performances set to music at this free event. Ice cream and lunch options will be available for purchase.
- Wednesday, August 14: Summer Storytime at the Garden
10-11 a.m., Glencoe Community Garden (380 Old Green Bay Road)
Enjoy stories, songs and games with the Glencoe Public Library while experiencing the wonders of the Garden as well! Children of all ages are welcome with a caregiver. In case of rain, event will be moved to the Library.
- Wednesday, August 14: Opening Performance of Into the Woods
7:30 p.m., Writers Theatre (325 Tudor Court)
See the classic fairy tale characters you think you know come to magical life in this smart, Tony Award-winning musical theatre masterpiece!
- Tuesday, August 20: Crafternoons
4:15-5 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
What’s better than a relaxing afternoon? Kids are welcome to stop by the Glencoe Public Library to create your own crafts out of a variety of materials, ranging from the everyday to the entirely unexpected.
- Sunday, August 25: Pet Blessing Service
10 a.m., North Shore United Methodist Church (213 Hazel Avenue)
Bring your pets for a special blessing at North Shore United Methodist Church. Please make sure your four-legged friends are on leashes or in carriers.
- Wednesday, August 28: Leonardo at 500 – The Art of Leonardo Da Vinci
7-8:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
To mark the 500th anniversary of Leonardo Da Vinci’s death, join art historian Jeff Mishur for a lecture on Leonardo’s artistic innovations and the many ways he helped establish the legacy of the Italian Renaissance.
- Thursday, August 29 and Tuesday, September 3: First Day of School
Students in grades 1-8 will start school on Thursday, August 29 while students in Kindergarten will begin on Tuesday, September 3. Please visit District 35’s website for additional information.
