Spring has no shortage of events and programs in Glencoe, and April is no exception! Don’t forget to check out the Arbor Day and Earth Day activities in late April. Take a look at what you can explore, enjoy and celebrate in and around Glencoe this month.
- Friday, April 6: Pajama Movie Night
6:30 - 8:30 p.m., Takiff Center (999 Green Bay Road)
Wear some comfy pajamas and enjoy fresh popcorn and refreshments at the Glencoe Park District’s screening of the film The Incredibles! All ages are welcome at this family-friendly event. Advanced registration is requested.
- Saturday, April 7: Coffee with the Boards
10 a.m. - Noon, Glencoe Roast (700 Vernon Avenue)
Meet with your local officials over a delicious cup of coffee. Learn more about current projects and initiatives being undertaken by the Village Board of Trustees, Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners, District 35 Board of Education and the Glencoe Public Library Board of Trustees. No RSVPs are necessary, and stay for as long as you would like. - Saturday, April 14: Welcome To Virtual Reality – Exploring the VR World
12 - 1:30 p.m., Glencoe Library (320 Park Avenue)
Travel to another world without moving your feet! Join the Glencoe Library in learning about virtual reality technology and even test a virtual reality device yourself. For ages 18 and up.
- Sunday, April 15: Friends of the Library Spring Concert
5 - 6 p.m., Glencoe Library (320 Park Avenue)
Listen to the soothing sounds of classical music at this spring music program, hosted by the Friends of the Glencoe Public Library. Featuring the Dorel Ensemble, this free one-hour concert is sure to be a delight.
- Monday, April 16: Knowing Your Audience – Code Switching and Social Performance
7 - 9 p.m., Highland Park Public Library (494 Laurel Avenue, Highland Park)
Discover how language, dialect and grammar can impact the way we interact with others through this exciting event from Writers Theatre, hosted by the Highland Park Public Library. Learn from language experts how to unpack social behavior and much more. Reserve your tickets today.
- Thursday, April 19: Senior Discussion Group Series – Vibrant Living
1 - 2:30 p.m., Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
Facilitated by the Family Service of Glencoe, seniors are invited to find out ways to balance emotional and physical health, maintain nourishing relationships and more. New attendees are welcome to attend and connect with others in our community.
- Thursday, April 26: Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony
11 a.m., Central School (620 Greenwood Ave)
Celebrate Arbor Day by joining the Village of Glencoe and School District 35 in a special tree planting ceremony!
- Friday, April 27: Free! Earth Day Clean-Up
9:30 a.m. - Noon, Various Locations
Celebrate Earth Day through this collaborative effort between the Village, Glencoe Park District and School District 35. Volunteer to help clean different areas in our community with District 35 students. Additional details, including a link to register your students, coming soon. - Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29: Mallot Japanese Garden Spring Festival
10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Road)
Explore children’s celebrations in Japan during this special weekend of activities. Listen to koto harp and shakuhaci flue music, enjoy traditional folk tales and watch a tea ceremony. Mark your calendars for this special event!
