David Vetter, Supervisor
The Public Works Forestry Division is responsible for the maintenance of more than 10,000 trees located in the public right-of-ways throughout the Village. All Village parkway trees are documented and managed from a computerized inventory data system.
Maintenance actions performed by the Village forestry crew range from routine trimming to removal of dead and diseased trees. After any parkway tree has been removed, including tree stump removal, the parkway is restored with dirt and grass seed. If adequate space exists in parkway, a new tree will be planted to replace the old one at no cost to the resident.
Residents can also purchase a tree for their parkway on a 50/50 cost share basis with the Village. The Village conducts the majority of it’s tree planting program each fall, along with a smaller planting program each spring.
Forestry staff members are currently on the look out for the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in the Village’s trees. As of the beginning of 2009, there are no confirmed sightings of this invasive pest. The Village also monitors elm trees infected with Dutch Elm Disease. Once identified, these trees are marked and scheduled for priority removal to help slow the spread of the disease to healthy elms. Village staff will also mark infected elm trees located on private property, the homeowner will then be sent a notice informing them of the need to have the tree removed in accordance with Village ordinance.
The Village currently has four Certified Arborists on staff to insure the forestry work is performed in a safe and professional manner.
