The Village of Glencoe is currently mandated by a general permit through the Illinois environmental Protection Agency to identify and eliminate sources of pollutants entering the storm sewer system to the greatest extent possible, and thereby prevent those sources from being transported to fresh water sources such as Lake Michigan.
The Village is educating its residents and staff to assist in identifying sources of pollution pollutants. Soil erosion control measures are required on all construction projects to reduce and eliminate silt from entering the storm system. Public maintenance processes may be altered to comply with the terms of the permit. Any questions on this effort or to report a potential pollutant may be directed to the Public Works Department by calling (847) 835-4111. Any potential source will be investigated and corrective measures taken based on the extent of the problem.
