Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe: June 2017

As the Village continues its efforts to encourage those of you who live here and visit here to “Shop, Dine & Celebrate in Glencoe,” on a monthly basis we will share a list of what’s going on in and around Glencoe. We hope you find this list helpful–as you’ll see from the list below, there’s a lot happening here! From community-wide special events, to featured programs coordinated by the Glencoe Library and Park District, to shows at Writers Theatre or a special exhibit or activity at the Chicago Botanic Garden – stay tuned at the beginning of each month for a list of ways to get Explore, Enjoy & Celebrate Glencoe.
Here’s your June run-down:
- Thursday, June 1: Glencoe Public Safety Blood Drive
7 a.m.-1 p.m., Apparatus Room, Village Hall
Did you know that every 2 seconds, someone needs blood? Start off your summer right by giving back. Use the link above to make an appointment – walk-ins also welcome.
- Saturday, June 3: Glencoe Grand Prix
All Day, Downtown Glencoe
Feel the need for speed? Watch as cyclists speed through downtown Glencoe for this one day road criterium race. Sign up your little ones for the free Children’s Race at Noon, or for one of the Junior races (ages 9-14 and 15-18) in the morning. Proceeds benefit the Glencoe Education Foundation. - Monday, June 5: The Making of…The Mystery of Love & Sex at Writers Theatre
Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at WritersTheatre? The Making of…series offers an insider view on what goes into creating each production. Can’t make the June 5 event? See if The Making of…Parade on June 26 might work. RSVP required.
- Tuesday, June 6: Music on the Esplanade at the Chicago Botanic Garden
6-8 p.m., Chicago Botanic Garden, Free (Parking fees may apply)
Each Tuesday evening brings a different kind of music, from big band to swing to bluegrass, to the Chicago Botanic Garden – stop by on June 6 for the first show by 70’s tribute act, The Shagadelics. Use the above link to view the full summer schedule.
- Friday, June 9: Movies on the Green – Moana
Movies begin at Dusk, Wyman Green, Free
Join us for the first Movies on the Green of the summer - Moana (PG). Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and pick up some snacks from Glencoe Youth Services at the event!
- Saturday, June 10: Glencoe French Market – Opening Day
8 a.m.-1 p.m., Wyman Green
While the French Market is open every Saturday through early fall, join us on Opening Day to meet with some of your local government officials and to take your pick of fresh, in-season fruits, veggies, produce and artisan goods.
- Saturday, June 17-Monday, June 19: Friends of the Glencoe Public Library Used Book Sale
Times Below, Glencoe Public Library (320 Park Avenue)
Get amazing deals on thousands of respectfully used books, DVDs, and CDs for all ages! Regular sale hours are Saturday, June 17, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, June 18, Noon-5 p.m. (everything half price); and Monday, June 19, 9 a.m.-Noon ($3/bag sale). All proceeds support the Glencoe Public Library.
- Sunday, June 18: Sunday Spotlight: Parade at Writers Theatre
Are you curious about the world that surrounds your favorite Writers Theatre production? Sunday Spotlight offers access to speakers, academics and cultural leaders who will extend conversation about the Sunday matinee with you after the show. RSVP required.
- Wednesday, June 21: Snack Attacks with the Glencoe Community Garden
7-8 p.m., Glencoe Community Garden (380 Old Green Bay Road)
Be prepared for your next snack attack by having healthy options at your fingertips with the help of health coach Evey Schweig.
- Friday, June 23-Saturday, June 24: Glencoe Sidewalk Sale
9 a.m.-5 p.m., Park and Vernon Avenues
Glencoe shops are joined by local vendors on the sidewalks of Park and Vernon Avenues. Take a stroll through the sale to find special deals. Event sponsored by the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce.
- Saturday, June 24: Cardboard Regatta (NEW!)
4-5 p.m., Glencoe Beach, $10-$15
Turn paper into a seaworthy vessel! Build your cardboard boat at home and bring it to the beach to race against other boats. For ages 6-18. Use above link to register with the Park District by June 16.
- Saturday, June 24: St. Paul A.M.E. Church Yard Sale
8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., St. Paul A.M.E. Church (336 Washington Street)
Shop through gently used clothes, furniture and accessories!
